Come, Lord Jesus: A Christmas Devotional

Come, Lord Jesus: 100 Days with the Waiting Witnesses of Christ in the Bible is a Christmas reading and journaling journey through Scripture for those who want to experience Advent as more than a countdown to December 25.

For one hundred days, you’ll walk alongside the people of the Bible who waited for Christ—sometimes knowingly, sometimes through longing they could not yet fully name. Beginning in Eden and moving through patriarchs, priests, kings, poets, prophets, outsiders, sufferers, disciples, converts, and the early Church, this study asks a different question than a traditional chronological Bible plan:

Who is the Christ these witnesses are waiting for?

Along the way, familiar voices like Abraham, Moses, David, Isaiah, Mary, Peter, and John are joined by less obvious witnesses such as Hagar, Melchizedek, Balaam, Rahab, Hannah, Naaman, the woman bent for eighteen years, Ananias, Tabitha, Lydia, Phoebe, Onesimus, and many others. Their stories gradually build a portrait of the One humanity has been waiting for: Deliverer, King, Shepherd, Servant, Priest, Lamb, Redeemer, Healer, Judge, Friend, and Lord.

The journey unfolds in five movements—We Have Seen Him Afar Off, He Redeems, He Changes People and Sustains a Covenant People, He Remains When Worlds Fall Apart, and And He Came—moving from Old Testament promise through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus and finally into the Church’s continuing hope for His return.

Each day includes a carefully chosen Scripture reading, a Look for Christ reflection, a personal journal prompt, and an invitation to add another name, promise, characteristic, or image to The One We Wait For. The plan is intentionally selective rather than a cover-to-cover Bible reading, designed to help you slow down and listen for the growing biblical expectation of Christ.

And because the Bible’s waiting does not end at Bethlehem, neither does this study. The final days move beyond the manger to the risen Christ and the closing promise of Revelation: “Surely I am coming soon.”

On Christmas Eve, after one hundred days of listening to others wait, hope, recognize, follow, suffer, and wait again, the question becomes personal:

Who is the Jesus I’m waiting for?

Come, Lord Jesus is for anyone who wants to enter Christmas with a deeper understanding of who Christ is, what His people have always longed for Him to do, and what it means to wait for Him with hope now.
